So our entire Terrapin Team did a FANTASTIC job at our Wax Museum!! The kids' outfits were well-thought out and so very creative! I will let the pictures and videos do the talking!!
As of this past Thursday, the kids have started their Home-School Journals. Within these journals, there is a letter from me explaining the purpose and goal of this journal. As the school year is entering spring and summer, our class and school are participating in fun activities and fun learning! I believe that these experiences should be shared at home with family and friends. One way to make this sharing even more meaningful, is to write it down and then receive a written response back from a loved one. I know that the handful of students who already received a response back from a loved one were giddy to read their journals. At the end of the year, this can act as a treasured keepsakes for students and families to have! So please consider responding each week - it would mean so much to each of them.
Each Thursday, the students will update their journals with the happenings of their school week. Then they will take their journals home that night in their Turtle Binders (where they shall keep them). On the Parent Response Page (which I should have labeled " _______ Response Page" and let you all fill in, because some of my students were writing to friends, neighbors, and siblings, so please feel free to cross "Parent" out!), please write a response back to the letter from that week! Make sure that the journals arrive back in school by the Wednesday of the following week.
Looking forward to reading some wonderful journal entries from students and family members! So far so good!
Last week, our goal as a class was to re-vamp the words we were using! We called this Metamorphosis of Words! It's butterfly themed (my favorite things in the world!), and we said that we wanted to try to eliminated the "caterpillar words" and try to use the "butterfly words"! They did all the research in thesauruses to come up with synonyms.
Here's the final product hanging up in our room:
Lastly, these past few weeks, we have been working on Biographies! Yesterday we finally started working on our individual biographies after working on some group biographies. Today, we decided that we would create a "Work" environment, by pretending that we were at Starbucks. Everyone agreed that everyone at Starbucks always seems so productive. So we turned off 1 set of lights, found a comfy spot in the room, turned on some zen meditation music and got to work! The kids were in the ZONE!! You could hear a pin drop and all their little fingers typing away on the Chromebooks! I even displayed a Starbucks image on the board to complete the atmosphere.
Here are some of the kids getting to work:
