What challenges faced the first English colonies? In Chapter 6, students are learning about the first three English settlements in the New World: Roanoke, Jamestown, and Plymouth. For each of the settlements, students will learn the motives each group of settlers had for moving to the New World, the hardships they endured in their new home, and the reasons why each settlement succeeded or failed. We will discuss ways that the three settlements were alike and ways that they were different. In Reading Further, the students will learn about King Philip's War, when colonists and local Native American tribes battled for control of New England. Chapter 6 Content Vocabulary
